Pebble Beach Pro-Am Preview

Pebble Beach Pro-Am Preview

The Courses (You may have heard of them):

Pebble Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach, CA Par 72, 6,828 Yds

Pebble Beach will host the 2019 U.S. Open

Spyglass Hill Golf Course, Pebble Beach, CA Par 72, 6,960 Yds

Monterey Peninsula CC Shore Course, Pebble Beach, CA Par 71, 6,867 Yds

Players will rotate among the three courses the first three days, followed by Sunday at Pebble Beach. Spyglass and Pebble have generally yielded the lowest scores, but with the talent in the field, all three can be handled. This is generally one of the more popular PGA Tour events, considering…

The Amateurs (You may have heard of them):

Entertainment: Bill Murray (of course), Toby Kieth, Carson Daly, Josh Duhamel, Huey Lewis, Chris O’Donnell, Darius Rucker, Carlton Banks, Kelly Rohrbach, Jake Owen, Larry the Cable Guy, Ray Romano (of course)

Sports: Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo, Alex Smith, Wayne Gretzky, Larry Fitzgerald, Justin Verlander, Steve Young

Basically a lot of country singers and quarterbacks, with a few actors and one really good hockey player sprinkled in. Also some other rich people I’ve never heard of.

The Field (You may have heard of them):

One of the best fields of the early season, Pebble will also see Rory McIlroy for the first time. This is probably due to the U.S. Open being played there in 2019. Other notables include Jordan Spieth (last year’s winner), Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson, Paul Casey, Gary Woodland and Rafa Cabrera Bello. The golfer with the best last name, Graeme McDowell, will tee it up as well. Sorry, no Tiger until next week.

The Pebble Beach Pro-Am has a 54-hole cut, with the low 60 (and ties) scores playing Sunday. The cut is smaller due to fitting everyone on the course on Sunday. All 156 Tour players will play with an amateur.

Prediction:

Phil Mickelson has four wins and a runner-up on this course, and played well last week in Phoenix. Spieth has putted poorly (for him) so far this year, but if he starts draining them he has as good a shot as anyone. I’ll be predictable and go with D.J., because if he’s at the top of his game, no one else in the world can touch him.

Losing DraftKings Lineup:

Dustin Johnson

Jimmy Walker

Adam Scott

Graeme McDowell

Austin Cook

Brandt Snedeker

Enjoy the tournament this weekend. It’s always a fun one to watch, even if it’s just for Bill Murray’s insane outfits. The weather looks perfect all weekend, so it shouldn’t play a factor. Happy golfing!
